Brief

This is a brief for the house of Jackson Pollock. In his late 70’s, the artist enjoy his style interiorly. , a more functional and unique tropical home will be his sanctuary in golden age. During free time, he does light exercise and cooking. Moreover, he is a smoker but he quitted some time ago. In adjacent to that, it is efficient to create space for his activities. The size of his kitchen remains and also to add in more openings. Measuring his capabilities and house area, a more efficient size is needed to aid him to move about. Stairs are preferably ejected to avoid misstep during at night. Steps are ok but having too much is not encouraged. Having a cool and ventilated air ensures his comfort and mood. He enjoys the view of nature and for that reason, to have an appropriate space for him to time off catching the scenery.

For his studio, as now he is working on smaller scale paintings, space are much less needed in the studio compared to his previous. It is essential to have less opening in the studio regarding his preferences as he wants more peaceful and quiet atmosphere where he can concentrate.

Resting at night is indeed important as for him, he enjoy sleeping time. Preferably a spacious bedroom for just a bigger space. He is likely often to spend his time in his bedroom and also rather with less opening which promise privacy.

EXLUSIVE!! Ron Marko chooses Malaysia!

KUALA LUMPUR: The arrival of Ron Marko in Malaysia two days ago has caused an elaborate sensation to Malaysians all over. Marko, who hails from Denver, Colorado, United States of America, is a world-recognized sculptor and painter. The reason for his visit to Malaysia is to find a suitable site for his second home. In his own words, he put it as “looking for a home for a home”.
According to him, the reason he chose Malaysia was mainly due to the climate. As we all know, our country experiences rain and shine all year round. There is no snow or draughts or extreme temperatures to bother with. Now 70 years of age, he states that he feels a calmer weather and climate will be better for his health and overall well-being. Having visited Malaysia in his younger days, he feels the scenery here is extremely beautiful and serene while the people are warm, helpful as well as friendly. “Everything about Malaysia is very good, from the people to the government, from the sceneries to the weather, from the peacefulness to the fact that there are very few natural disasters…everything here is perfect and I know I will be very happy spending my golden years here”, he said.
XYZ Architects & Co. has been proudly chosen by Ron Marko to design his ideal dwelling. This firm, which is one of the oldest and leading architectural firms around was contacted by him once he decided on Malaysia. Asked about what he would want his future house to function as, he replied that he would like it to be a place to rest and relax. He basically wants a quiet place within a peaceful setting and environment to obtain inspiration and ideas for his work. His idea of a suitable site would be someplace high like a hill or a cliff.
The concept which he wants his house to be based on is mainly growth, expansion and explosion. He wants the design of the place to be complicated to mimic his work. In addition, he hinted that he would enjoy a place with many irregularly-shaped openings to bring in natural light and ventilation. He has asked for the openings to look like shattered glass to bring out the effects of explosion. In answer to our question of how he would like his building to look like, he said, “I’d like it to be a strong, solid, durable exterior with sharp edges and dramatic angles”. The apparent reason, according to him, is to give a sense of safety and security (feeling protected) to the people inside.
Marko’s ideal choice of materials for the house is generally concrete accompanied by transparent and frosted glass. He has also mentioned that he would want a working area, a kitchen, a hall, a toilet and two additional rooms/spaces. All in all, he wants approximately six rooms. The design requirements that Marko has visualized are mainly to be senior friendly (“I’m old already”, he jokingly adds). His staircases have to be equipped with railings while the toilet has to be located close to the bedroom. Flooring of the toilet must be non-slip with adequate space to move around. Finally, he has requested that his bedroom be suspended with a balcony overlooking the scenery while his studio/working area located on the upper level with openings in every corner.
That being asked and answered, it is without a doubt that XYZ Architects & Co. will have their work cut out for them. It will be an immense yet most welcomed challenge to come out with a suitable design for this famous person.

As this artist is an individual, I would expect your write-ups to bring out (emphasise) those things that set her apart, that make her special, different from others. She isn't just an anybody. And her house would be reflective of her make up, tailor-made for her and her peculiarities.

And if I were the designer in your firm I would be keen to know what makes her tick, what her art (which I should imagine makes up most of her life) is all about, so that I have a lead on how to design the house---to make it not only an award winner but also ideally suited to her.

Artists paint their life philosophies, don't they?

And one BIG PROBLEM for those who took on dead artists (like Kandinsky.) HOW DID YOU INTERVIEW A DEAD ARTIST? And more frighteningly: WHO IS GOING TO LIVE IN THAT HOUSE?

hey everyone, i got a question can anyone please help to answer me? it's about the presentation board..

i heard that our presentation board have to be totally manual rite? tat mean we have to hand draw and hand write everything which we r goin to show? including the drawings? bcos we hav oredi done some of our drawings on tracing paper, but i saw so many of ms shereen's cls buy the AO size tracing paper to trace again for the presentation...but some of them said is ok to scan and print it out? im quite confussed of tat...

anyone who can answer me asap? thx

Ian, about the shirt.. im sorry i cant find any shop that willing to print 18 pieces... most off the shop.. no i mean all the shop need at least 30-50 pieces.

By now you must have solved your problem with Ms Kwok. Just show her what you've got and your medical certificate. And try to finish up everything by the Final Submission date. From memory I think it's 22 Nov. Don't worry about it. Just do what you can. Your health comes first.

SERIOUS TROUBLE!!!

Ian, currently i'm facing a very serious TROUBLE! Due to my sickness, i am only able to finish my plans and 2 elevations. Currently i still got another 2 elevations and the sections and roof wall floor section and details to go. i think i should be able to finish my elevations in time but not the sections. Because till now my body is still not feeling ok... After i draw for a while, i started to get headache and my both my hands keep shaking. This really troubling me for not able to finish my work in time... Now i really duno what i should do. And i'll be taking bus to go KL in a short while... Now i really lost...

Hi Ian, i would like to clarify something regarding the drawings submission on 30 Oct 06 (Monday)
We are supposed to draw:

1 floor plan (1:100 or 1:150)
1 roof plan (size is up to us, as long as it can be fitted into the same sheet of paper with the floor plan)
4 elevations and 2 sections (follow the scale of the floor plan)
1 construction drawing (1:20)
1 detail drawing (1:10 or 1:20)

besides, these 10 drawings... are we supposed to arrange them according to the way we wanted to present them on the D-Day (exp. leave spaces for the photos, squeeze in some elevations and roof plan together with the floor plan) OR hand them in as just plain drawings (exp. floor plan 1 sheet, elevations 1 sheet, etc...)

P.S. 10Q so much Ian for guiding us step by step to this very final stage, till the completion of our master piece... really greatful to have you by our side... and once again, we Thank You, Xie Xie Ni, Dor Cheh Lei, Terima Kasih...*UR THE MAN c(^^;)b

Ian, on behalf of the class, i'd like to thank you for all you have done, for guiding us through this and for sharing your experiences and knowledge. i can only imagine all the shit you've been putting up with us, showing you our 'great' designs, (as speaking from experience :p). but thanks for being so patient and for being such a great tutor :) I'm sure we all had a great sem having you.

And next time you're on a tv programme, do tell us so we know when to expect ian in action again. haha!

hi, ian. here is my plan after revolution.hope that u can give me some advice so tat i can get my PEACE as soon as possible.

i use a lot of big windows, but no window is facing another building. it face the trees and the small garden. two classroom share one toilet i think is enought for them.below i got some amendment of my plan bcos i think that i should make the whole building in one, so i choose to make the whole related building bcome one organic form.
